We often cannot determine a problem until we attempt repairs - ie the only way to confirm a blown capacitor, is to replace it and see if the unit starts - if so, that confirms that was indeed the problem.

Then once the compressor has started, we can then check if the gas charge is correct and check the rest of the unit over.

Also, once capacitors start failing, it is an indicator that the compressor is on the way out

Often on newer inverter systems the repair is not this easy, with complex PCboards - If the repair cannot be done on the spot, we then quote for parts required

With older systems, we always aim to have the owners best interests in mind, and will repair the unit as cheaply as possible

But we have to mention that there can be no warranty on repairs on units that are on their last legs ie cheap brands, beyond 10+ years

Often depending on many circumstances, replacement with a new unit is often the best long term cost-effective solution
